relatives asked him the dreaded question, “What do you want
to be when you grow up?” He’d say, “A CPA, of course!”
and then wouldn’t show up to class the next day.
That boy’s name was Jimmie Stephens.

You are only as strong as your weakest link. I know, because I used to be that weakest link. I barely scraped by in high school, graduating with a 1.45 GPA, no aspirations, and no direction. My personal awakening occurred after serving two tours of duty, and escaping the clutches of two near-death experiences. I almost died. Twice. I realized: I couldn’t keep dreaming. I couldn’t keep sleeping. I couldn’t keep living an empty life. I needed to wake up. I realized that life was greater than I made it out to be and that all of us – all of us – have a higher purpose. That higher purpose belongs to us.
But in order to be more than we are, we need to unearth it. We need to cultivate it. We need to shape it. We need to become it. We need to live a life of continual improvement, if we want to attain stability, freedom and independence. My true calling is in servitude. This is why it’s my life’s mission to help others achieve these same objectives – because I will never forget the difficulty and pain I experienced, before realizing my purpose. And now, I will do anything to help others realize theirs. You don’t need to struggle as I have.
This is the mindset we need to impart onto our youth. One of servitude, passion, and – most importantly – purpose. We can’t leave them without direction. We need to instill confidence. We need to awaken their passions. We need to take their hands and guide them to one realization: they can bring so much good to others’ lives. This is what I do, what I love to do, and what I will continue to do for the rest of my life.
